Teachers

Meet the teachers of

Haydons Dance Academy

Sharon Haydon
Principal

Sharon Haydon began dancing at the age of 7 years old at The Exchange Building in the Market Place, Doncaster with the Aida Sutton School of Dancing. There Sharon attended classes several times a week and passed her exams with honours and competed in many local and national competitions.

She went to dance professionally at 16 at the famous Batley Variety Club and Wakefield Theatre Club - gracing the stage with stars like Shirley Bassey, Neil Sedaka, The Three Degrees, Cannon and Ball and many many more.

In 1976 Sharon left the profession and came home to open her Dance School after taking preliminary Teaching qualifications. She continued then to further her training right through her life believing we are never too old to learn a new skill or to further our training. Many seminars were attended with the IDTA in Leicester covering all aspects of dance over many years.

She now holds 5 fellowships in Ballet, Tap, Modern, Jazz and Stage and a Membership in Freestyle. This is in both the BATD and the IDTA Associations - She also completed a Hip Hop course at Hype Dance in Sheffield. Being the oldest person on the course!!

In 2003 Sharon became an Examiner for the British Association of Teachers of Dancing - the examining has taken her all over the British Isles and a few visits to Canada.  Sharon also lectures and adjudicates around the country.

Added to all this Sharon is often found involved in local amateur operatic societies as Choreographer and for 25 years ran the very popular Drama Shop, where she directed and costumed pantomimes and main shows. Sometimes the children from the school are invited to take part in these productions and many of the older students join as dancers and singers.

The School is Sharon’s extended family long may it continue.
